MEET THE TEAM

Joe started his career ‘on the tools’, working as a joiner. That day-to-day experience of working on construction sites gave him a fantastic grounding and appreciation of the skills required and challenges that need to be overcome to deliver safe and sustainable buildings that are fit for purpose. He has always strived to put this practical experience to the best possible use – he even built his family home – and has passed much of this knowledge onto colleagues, clients, and other professionals.

Moving into building control, he worked for several authorities in the north and south of England before entering the private sector which enabled him to progress in different directions with posts at senior and strategic levels. As a senior building surveyor with Zurich Building Guarantees, Joe was part of a surveying/inspection team for Zurich’s latent defects warranty products and Building Control. Subsequently, he worked in regional and management positions at various approved inspectors before setting up Alpha Building Control.

Joe takes great pride in leading a team of dedicated professionals who are client-focused and retain a personal, professional, practical approach.

Selena joined Alpha Building Control as Finance Director in 2023. A Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant, she brings over 20 years of financial management experience across a range of sectors, including IT, retail, logistics, media, manufacturing, and engineering.  She has a deep understanding of the financial dynamics of rapidly growing organizations with global reach, particularly within the SME landscape.

Selena specializes in establishing appropriately scaled finance functions, supporting their growth ambitions and ensuring sound business operations.  Financial transparency and accurate forecasting are core principles she employs to help business owners and senior management teams navigate challenges and make informed decisions.

Prior to joining Alpha Building Control, Selena worked as a Finance Director providing services to Yorkshire-based businesses. This experience has equipped her with a unique perspective on the financial needs of businesses like Alpha Building Control. She is passionate about contributing to the company's strategic growth and financial success.

With a background in both property development and accountancy Andrew made the move into building control in early 2015 working alongside his father, Richard Martin, as a consultant for an Approved Inspector in the home counties. In mid-2023 he joined Alpha Building Control and became Technical Director in April 2024.

With CABE and BSR accreditation Andrew strives to bring a practical and well-rounded approach to Building Control and will attempt to help wherever possible. His view is that our role it to provide the best outcomes for our clients and to make the process as smooth and hassle free as possible.

A family man at heart, he will endeavour to ensure care and quality are at the forefront  in all aspects of his work and in the ethics imposed to those under his remit.

After a 15 year career in Dental Nursing, Helen took up a new challenge by changing her career direction into HR and administration in Building Control.

Helen joined Alpha Building Control as our Business Support Team Leader in 2019, she has streamlined the HR and administration processes whilst managing the administration team and supporting the Managing Director as PA.

From an early age Rob decided to pursue my passion for the built environment. This lead me through higher education obtain my BSc in Building Surveying.

Graduating during an economic downturn in the market in which permanent rolls were scarce. It was during this time that he decided to broaden his life experience and travel.

 
This chapter took him around the around the world landing in Melbourne where I stayed in for two years. Here he gained valuable experience working as an assistant site manager as well as pursuing his favorite pastimes with local clubs, playing cricket and rugby.

After returning and the industry trending upward once more, he was given the opportunity to work for Checkmate as a regional surveyor in the latent defect market, gaining a wealth of industry relevant experience within this sector.

After 8 years he was looking for a new challenge and took the opportunity to join Alpha Building control in the position of Building Inspector. Quickly achieving BSR registration. He is now embracing the position of Audit Manager, alongside other aspects here at Alpha.
